Welcome to our podcast series.
The aim of this series is to demonstrate the breadth and diversity of the commitment of religious congregations, orders and societies in responding to what Pope Francis calls “the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor” (Laudato Si:49). Focusing on issues of social justice, global peace and the integrity of creation, we explore a multiplicity of on-the-ground initiatives and responses in Ireland and across the world in an attempt to ensure that that those who continue to live on them margins of our society are not left behind and that our common home can sustain future generations.
We live in a contemporary world turned ‘topsy turvy’. Our fragile democracy is under threat, the inequality gap is expanding, our capacity to recognise who is ‘our neighbour’ is compromised and our “house is on fire” (Greta Thunberg). It is ever more critical to remind ourselves of our common humanity and to share the ways in which we can re-learn what it is to be human and to enjoy the many gifts of our planet.

The program tells the fascinating story of five religious Irish women who worked in the missions abroad; why these women chose the life that they did and the challenges they faced not only on their missionary posting but also the difficulties encountered on return home to Ireland
