Belonging Without Boundaries

AMRI are members of Belonging Without Boundaries, an ecumenical group focused on promoting truth with compassion towards and inclusive and welcoming society throughout the island of Ireland. The network group Places of Sanctuary Ireland is represented on this group by Catholic and Church of Ireland members. Places of Sanctuary Ireland works through community groups, schools and higher education institutions, churches, local councils, businesses and other organisations to promote a culture of welcome, inclusiveness and safety for those newly arrived into Ireland. Places of Sanctuary Ireland is the umbrella body for the City of Sanctuary groups in Ireland, north and south.

Many AMRI members have and continue to provide a welcome and safe environment for individuals, families and groups newly arriving into the country. This response has been in a variety of forms, including the provision of accommodation, social and health service responses, language supports, befriending and integration support, and so much more.

In recent years, there has been an increase in Ireland that focuses a disturbing racist narrative that seeks to lay blame to the newcomer for our society’s social and economic failures. The increased ‘far-right’ manifestation and hate-induced rhetoric is one negative example. This raises the urgency for a safe space in which to challenge this narrative and share a prophetic voice. One way, is to be a part of a growing movement of welcome through Places of Sanctuary Ireland. Consider registering to become a member of Places of Sanctuary Ireland.
