Commemorating and celebrating 20 years of APT – Act to Prevent Trafficking
On Monday, 1st December APT-AMRI celebrated 20 years of taking action to challenge and prevent human trafficking. The commemoration began with Mass at Kimmage Manor Parish. During the mass there were presentations, reflections and prayers telling the story of APT and honouring the work and commitment of religious in combatting human trafficking for sexual exploitation. A presentation by JP O’Sullivan from MECPATHS outlined the grim reality for the victims and survivors of human trafficking and concluded with a testimony from a young woman, groomed and trafficked from a young age who highlighted the trauma suffered by the individual and the systematic failures that can facilitate its continuation. The mass was followed by a wonderful celebration of the work and collaboration of religious at AMRI in Kimmage Manor.
Act to Prevent Trafficking Ireland (APT) is a faith-based group that seeks to raise awareness of the local and global issue of Trafficking in Persons. APT works collaboratively on the prevention of the trafficking of women and children for sexual exploitation. The members of APT are representatives of religious congregations and missionary societies, and are a committee of AMRI.
